Below are just a list of quotes by some CCM artists and music magazines with a little commentary from me:

Today’s contemporary style of Christian music is (by product, maybe not intent) honoring to man and not God.

Notice some things that some ‘big name artists’ have said:

Amy Grant said: “”What we’re trying to do is take Christian principles and make them understandable. Even if it doesn’t say Jesus, it doesn’t matter. . .” (Rolling Stone, June 6, 1985 p 10)

Back in 1987 when this was a relatively new thing, Rich Mullins said: “I’m really sick of all this heavy-handed Christianity. Musicians take themselves too seriously. They should have more FUN, and they should stop preaching unless that’s what God has called them to. If I want to hear a sermon, I’ll go to church, thank you.” (CCM magazine, April, 1987, p. 12)

Jason Martin of Starflyer 59 said: “A lot of bands, the reason they get so turned off, is because you have to put the word ‘Jesus’ in every line. . . That’s why so many bands get almost anti-Jesus in their lyrics, even though they’re Christians.” (HM, Mar/Apr 97 p. 21)

Inside the Music said in 1991 about Michael W Smith’s concerts: “His concerts draw hundreds of thousands of fans each year, mostly teenage girls who scream out their AFFECTION FOR HIM non-stop throughout. . . . To his fans, Smith is the absolute greatest there is, BAR NONE . . .” (emphasis added)

Of Steve Camp, Josh McDowell said: “Thank God for Steve Camp. The body of Christ is enriched because we have his heart and his music. My oldest daughter thinks he hung the moon.” Josh McDowell (CCM, Aug, 91, p. 15)

Now let me ask, who hung the moon? Should Jeremy camp get the credit for that? (I know, he’s being figurative) But really now, are these people gaining a following for Christ or for themselves. I know that they may not intend this but it is what is happening. Consider a few more quotes:

Michael Card: “Now, the industry is celebrity-driven. The song is almost irrelevant. The focus is on the PERSON, and songs have become disposable.” (Can’t Buy Me Ministry, Christianity Today, May 20, 1996 (p. 22)

Over 15 years ago Keith Green said the following about the music: “Why do we IDOLIZE Christian singers and speakers? We go from glorifying musicians in the world, to GLORIFYING Christian musicians. It’s all idolatry! . . . Satan is getting a great victory as we seem to WORSHIP these ministers on tapes and records, and clamor to get their autographs in churches and concert halls from coast to coast.” (Keith Green, from the Tract, “So You Wanna Be A Rock Star”)

Michael Card: “The direction and value system are getting worse faster than any of us can imagine.” (Can’t Buy Me Ministry, Christianity Today, May 20, 1996 (p. 22)

This is how CCM Mag introduces Sandi Patty’s album artist of my soul: “The press kit arrived today packed full of superlatives and more than 1200 square inches of plush photography. The singer looks to her right and smiles pleasantly as the breeze teases nicely coiffed blond hair. Her arms are thrown wide as she gladly embraces the moment. This is, after all, something of a comeback.
Open the lavish 9-inch by 12-inch publicity folio. Inside, the singer smiles up at you from a photograph a foot-and-a-half wide. Open the folder again and a photographic panorama spreads three-feet wide across the desk. On the left 18 inches, she’s outside, same setting, still smiling, gazing skyward. To the right, indoors, under amber light, hands lightly clasped, eyes downcast, she strikes a contemplative pose. Nestled inside the press kit, enfolded by all those smiling photos, are the words–the P.R.–and the praise is effusive. The singer has created “a distinguished work of art.” Her voice is “distinctive,” her songs “eloquent and articulate,” the CD “masterfully crafted” and “breathtakingly performed.” She’s a “preeminent talent,” who is “critically acclaimed” and “highly successful” –”stirring” with “remarkable musical diversity” and an “expansive vocal range.” “Dynamic… quintessential… timeless… heartwarming.” She is the recipient of five Grammy Awards, nine Grammy nominations, 35 Dove Awards (“more than any other artist”), three platinum records, five gold records. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.” (CCM Magazine, January, 1998, p.32)

Some other interesting quotes:

Stan Moser, former head of Word Records (the man responsible for signing Amy Grant) and CEO of Star Song Records, was one of the pioneers and most important executives in CCM. And after 26 years involved in CCM, in November 1995 walked away CCM. In an article in Christianity Today, titled “We Have Created a Monster”, about CCM Mr. Moser says:

“In the beginning of the eighties, Sandi, Patti was singing Dottie Rambo songs in church concerts; toward the end of the eighties, she was singing at the Republican National Convention. We went from the church to Carnegie Hall, from the church to large, secular arenas, where Bill and Gloria Gaither would hold praise gatherings. . .
We as an industry weren’t running away from the church at that time, but I do think we walked away, hoping to bring enough of the church along so we could still make a living-so we could still, basically, get rich. Materialism, a lot of it, crept in and started affecting our values. . .

“There is a growing chasm between CCM and the church – between what’s actually happening in the real world of ministry, or even in the music ministry of the church, and what we’re doing in CCM. In fact, I would probably be more inclined to call the industry “commercial Christian music,” rather than “contemporary Christian music. . . “(Christianity Today, “We Have Created a Monster”, May 20, 1996 p. 27)

Robert Sweet (formerly with stryper) “We always had this attitude that we didn’t want to be characterized as this little religious band sold in religious bookstores and happy and content to play in a church for love offerings.” (Milwaukee Journal, Aug 25, 1987 p. 11)

Mark Farner: “Music is a part of my ministry no matter where I go and 90 percent of that is secular,” Farner said. Farner also continues to tour the nation performing in some of the same nightclubs and bars that he played as a member of Grand Funk. (Calendar Fall/Win 91 p 6)

Other Quotes about the ‘rock music’ style:

“But rock music has one appeal only, a barbaric appeal, to sexual desire – not love, not eros, but sexual desire undeveloped and untutored.” (Bloom, Alan, The Closing of the American Mind, Simon & Schuster, 1987 p.73)
“Its admirers want to make rock appealing by making it respectable. The thing can’t be done. Rock is appealing because it’s vulgar, . . Rock is the quintessence of vulgarity. It’s crude, loud, and tasteless.” (Pattison, Robert, The Triumph of Vulgarity, 1987, preface, p.4)

The sexuality of music is usually referred to in terms of it’s rhythm — it is the BEAT that commands a directly PHYSICAL response.” (Simon Frith, Sound Effects, Youth, Leisure, and the Politics of Rock ‘n’ Roll, p. 240)

“Rhythm is the element of music most closely allied to BODY MOVEMENT, to PHYSICAL action. Its simpler patterns when repeated over and over can have a hypnotic effect on us”. (Joseph Machlis, The Enjoyment of Music, p. 19) (emphasis added)

Michael Jackson said about his grabbing him self: “It’s the music that compels me to do it. You don’t think about it, it just happens. I’m a slave to the rhythm.” (The Evening Star, February 11, 1993, p. A10)

Drums:

“[Drums] represents the beat of the heart and is played to summon up magic powers.” (Miranda Bruce-Mitford, The Illustrated Book of Signs & Symbols, DK Publishing, 1996 p.80)
“The shaman was the original ‘long hair’, the first rock star draped in leather, dancing possessed to a rhythm banged out on A drum.” (Danny Sugerman, Appetite for Destruction, p. 208)

In Siberia, in northern Asia, drums are used in shamanic rituals to heal people. It is believed that the shaman can communicate with the spirit world through drumming. (Louise Tythacott, Musical Instruments, Thomas Learning, 1995, p. 37)

“Pagan dances and rituals are always accompanied by the incessant beat of drums. Rhythm plays a major role in these demonic activities.” (Hart, Lowell Satan’s Music Exposed, Salem Kirban Inc., 1980 p.71)

I recently had a conversation with my mom and sister about music. My sister has found some interesting things about musicians, movies stars and devil worship (I haven’t looked into it). And I made a picture video four our family reunion and used some songs from ‘pickin on patch’. I got comments like “why did you put funeral music on there?” and “There’s no beat.” I talked to my mom about it and she said that people just don’t like that ‘church music’ they like something with a little beat or rhythm in it.

Let me ask the question, Why do people like the beat? Why do they need to have some sort of ‘rhythm’ in their ‘music’? Now let me further qualify that if their is no rhythm in a song, it does not play. You must have rhythm in order for a song to move along. You have to have a beat. Hence the timing of a song like 4/4 3/4 and so on. So, what are they talking about when they say beat? Its the back beat. They need the back beat. Question: Why? is it their preference or their ’style’ of music? Nope, when I asked that, they just said any beat will do as long as it isn’t boring like that stuff. (This is really funny, I’ll post the video later so you can see it; it will be called “Peake Family Reunion 2010″) (The titles to the songs on the video are ‘all that I need’, ‘bow the knee’, ‘Jonah’, ‘wiggle worm’, ‘little by little’ and ‘be still my soul’)

So, what is it about the beat? I have to confess that a little while ago, while researching this, I watched probably 30 or 40 music videos from various artists and I like the beat myself. But what in me likes the beat? Is it the Spirit of God and the new creature that he has made me crying out from the inward man saying ‘give me that beat, I wanna move my…’ WAIT A MINUTE, that’s it, it’s my FLESH! Our flesh wants the beat, it craves it, just like it craves many other things that are not good for it. Does your flesh just hate sweets? How about exercise? Personally, I have to beat myself into working out, my body hates it. If you have an addiction, doesn’t your flesh just cry out for it if you try to leave it alone? The lusts of the flesh are spoken against all through the New Testament. Let me know if you need references and I’ll get them to you, they are all over the place.

Now, what is the most important thing about all of the ‘CCM’ that is out there? Does the music fit you liking? Isn’t that how we judge what ’style’ of music we listen to? What do we like, right? That sounds pretty fleshly to me. Now, granted, that can go both ways. I don’t think the issue of music is such a ’subjective thing’ as many would like to think it is.

In future notes, I will discuss whether or not music is amoral and the issue of preference.

The first time “the gospel of Christ” shows up in the Bible is in Romans 1:16, where Paul says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation.” Many people know the word gospel means good news. The bad news is most people will not accept it. The sad news is that rejecting the good news puts a person in hell the moment they die. According to the Bible “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). According to the Bible “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). No one needs to go to hell when they die. The Bible declares, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15). You see before the world was even created by God, He had a plan of salvation in mind. He knew men would sin if given free will. He could have made us without free will, but then God was looking for more than that when He made man. He wanted not only to love man, but also to be loved by man. He desired fellowship. Imagine your creator wanted to fellowship with you! God cannot fellowship with sinners, for He Himself is holy and completely righteous. Are there not people you see from time to time that you believe are just too bad for you to want to be friends with? Yet you are a sinner also, but God is holy. He loved us so much “that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Everlasting life with God! God wants to be our friend! Ever wondered why you were here? Have you searched for purpose in life? Want to know God’s will for you personally? It’s very simple (so is the gospel by the way) “for thou has created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11). You were created for God’s pleasure. We cannot please God as sinners in our sin. The good news is that God’s Son died for our sin. God has given us His gospel (good news) very plainly. Man has made it complicated through many religions. 1 Corintians 15:1-4 gives us the gospel in short order: “moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have recieved, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you unless ye have believed in vain.” (Believing the gospel is something other than Paul preached.) “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also recieved, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;” (not according to some other books) “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” (not according to some religion that was man made). The gospel then is three parts: First Jesus Christ died for our sins. Secondly, he was buried for us. Thirdly, he rose from the dead for us. It was our sins that caused Jesus to die on the cross of calvary. We should be very thankful to God for that. Only God can take away our sins. Only God could take the punishment for our sins. God, the judge of the whole earth, set the penalty for sin (punishment in hell forever); but since His Son who is part of the Godhead (Colossians 2:9)never sinned or even could sin, He was able to take our sins and yet not go to hell forever. Isaiah 53:10a says, “Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him.” Verse 11 states ” He shall see the travail of His soul,” (on the cross) “and shall be satisfied”. It goes on to say, “my Righteous Servant [shall] justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.” Iniquities are sins or transgressions agains God’s laws. Jesus is truely the only way to escape hell, and go to heaven the day that we die. Jesus himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Many preachers are saying today that there are other ways to be saved, which is calling Jesus a liar. No matter how sincere a person is about his religion, all other roads lead to hell. Take the high road; take Jesus. If you take Jesus, He will take you. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (name of Jesus) (Romans 10:13) This alone is the Gospel of Christ, which truly is good news!

It is very interesting that sometimes it seems quite by chance that I read things that were meant to be in order. It’s like everything ties in some way together. I say it seems like it’s by chance but I really don’t believe there is such a thing. When things like this happen you may wonder, “Did that just happen? Or was there some kind of reason behind it?” I trust the LORD, that He wanted a thought threaded through my mind and also that I may share it with others if it may indeed be impactful. So I started reading in the Summit Journal (a free newsletter they send to my house),

Isaac Newton was the greatest scientist who has ever lived or, in Albert Einstein’s words, the most “privileged” of all scientists because of the discoveries that Newton was permitted to make. Einstein describes Newton as “this brilliant genius, who determined the course of western thought, research, and practice to an extent that nobodybefore or since his time can touch.” (See Essays in Science by Albert Einstein (1934), Philosophical Library,New York.)

Yet, near the end of his life, Newton said of himself: “I do not know what I may appear to the world; but TO MYSELF I SEEM TO HAVE BEEN ONLY LIKE A BOY PLAYING on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, while the great ocean of truth lay all UNDISCOVERED before me.”

In the second edition of the Principia, in which he published most of his discoveries in physics, Newton writes: “The true God is a living, intelligent, and powerful being. His duration reaches from eternity to eternity; His presence from infinity to infinity. He governs all things.”

Newton wrote only three books—the Optics, the Principia, and Observations upon the Prophecies of Daniel and the Apocalypse of St. John—Isaac Newton (1733), Darby and

Browne, London. Reprinted by the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (1991).

Averaged over his life, he divided his time equally between his physics and his Bible, believing that his physics was a Biblical ministry. To Dr. Bently he wrote, “When I wrote my Treatise about our System [the Principia], I had an Eye upon such Principles as might work with considering Men, for the belief of a Deity, and nothing can rejoice me more than to find it useful for that Purpose.”

-Arthur B. Robinson, Access to Energy. Dec. 2009 (emphasis mine)

Then I read the next article:

I would like to follow up on Dr. Robinson’s comments regarding science. About a year ago, I decided to check out some readable works on physics to see what was going on in that field. What I discovered from one of the twentieth century’s greatest physicists is worth sharing with our Summit family. So stay with me as I develop this story.

First, I have been told that three of the top physicists of the twentieth century are Paul Dirac, Richard P. Feynman, and Steven Weinberg. In the forward to Feynman’s Elementary Particles and the Laws of Physics, John C. Taylor of Cambridge University writes, “Paul Dirac was one of the finest physicists of [the twentieth] century. The development of quantum mechanics began at the turn of the century, but it was Dirac who, in 1925 and 1926, brought the subject to its definitive form, creating a theory as compelling as Newton’s mechanics had been.”

Then I noticed another interesting statement by Taylor: “Dirac stated his philosophy of physics in the sentence ‘physical laws should have mathematical beauty.’” Wow! Science, math (the language of science), and beauty—WHAT A TRINITY! If this is true, then why are Christians ridiculed for believing that the “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork.” (Psalm 19:1)?

Steven Weinberg, an atheist, says, “Many of us are betting the most valuable thing we have, our time, that [string] theory is so beautiful that it will survive in the final underlying laws of physics.” This adds to scientific endeavor beyond imagination and experimentation. Now a theory must also be beautiful! I wonder if Dr. Weinberg ever considered that perhaps God is behind such beauty!

After reading Elementary Particles, I discovered that Richard P. Feynman is indeed considered one of the twentieth century’s pre-eminent physicists. Paul Davies insists that first there was Isaac Newton, then Albert Einstein, and now “Richard

Feynman has become an icon for the late twentieth-century physics—the first American to achieve this status.”

So what was I to do but read Feynman (Princeton PhD, 1942) in greater depth?

I started slowly with Feynman’s Six Easy Pieces: Essentials of Physics and moved on to The Meaning of It All: Thoughts of a Citizen Scientist, The Theory of Fundamental Processes, Lectures on Physics, and finished with Elementary Particles and the Laws

of Physics.

In spite of the innumerable equations sprinkled throughout Feynman’s work, e.g., (h2/2s)+(nh2/2s’)=(b-1) h2/2R, I actually began to gain some understanding of the world of particles. (Incidentally, I think the above equation translates earth!)

I also read Stephen Meyer’s great work Signature in the Cell and knew I was entering the deeper regions of the cell’s atoms. Since the parts of the atom intrigue me to no end, I could hardly wait to learn more.

However, since my academic background is philosophy (unfortunately, Feynman does not like philosophers, psychologists, or for that matter, the National Academy of Sciences), I knew there were some challenges ahead, but in allhonesty, not exactly what I expected.

Paul Davies (not exactly a slouch in physics) insists that Feynman is on top of such subjects as subatomic particles, atoms and nuclei, molecules and chemical bonding, the structure of solids, superconductors and superfluids, “and much else,” and “it is unlikely that the world will see another Richard Feynman.”

Feynman also possesses another quality lacking in much of science today. WHEN HE DOESN’T KNOW SOMETHING, HE ADMITS IT! For example, in Six Easy Pieces, Feynman makes the startling statement, “It is important to realize that in physics today, we have no knowledge of what energy is” (p. 71).

If we don’t know what energy is, what else don’t we know?

As it turns out, we don’t know a whole lot of things as the following list from Six Easy Pieces illustrates.

Six of Feynman’s lectures on physics have been put into a book entitled Six Easy Pieces: Essentials of Physics Explained by Its Most Brillant Teacher. The intro to the book is by Paul Davies. . . . I begin with Paul Davies. . . . “There is a popular misconception that science is an impersonal, dispassionate, and thoroughly objective enterprise. Whereas most other human activities are dominated by fashions, fads, and personalities, science is supposed to be constrained by agreed rules of procedure and rigorous tests. It is the results that count, not the people who produce them. This is, of course, manifest nonsense. Science is a people-driven activity like all human endeavor, and just as subject to fashion and whim. In this case fashion is set not so much by choice of subject matter, but by the way scientists think about the world.” Now to the world’s most recently celebrated physicist. . . (Richard Feynman).

Page 2—“First, we do not yet know all the basic laws[of physics]: there is an expanding frontier of ignorance.” Same page—“The principle of science, the definition, almost, is the following: The test of all knowledge is experiment. Experiment is the sole judge of scientific ‘truth.’ But what is the source of knowledge? Where do the laws that are to be tested come from? Experiment, itself, helps to produce these laws, in the sense that it gives us hints. But also needed is imagination to create from these hints the great generalizations—to guess at the wonderful, simple, but very strange patterns beneath them all, and then to experiment to check again whether we have made the right guess.”

Page 24—“The rules of the game are what we mean by fundamental physics. . . . Actually, we do not have all the rules now. (Every once in a while something like castling is going on that we still do not understand.”

Page 39—“It turns out that the calculations that areinvolved in this theory [quantum nucleodynamics] are so difficult that no one has ever been able to figure out what the consequences of the theory are. . .we do not yet know where it fits.”

Page 43—“Everything works exactly the same for the muon as for the electron, except that one is heavier than the other. Why is there another one heavier; what is the use for it? We do not know.”

Page 44—“This then, is the horrible condition of our physics today. . . . We do not know how the universe got started, and we have never made experiments which check our ideas of space and time accurately, below some tiny distance, so we only know that our ideas work above that distance. . . . We seem gradually to be groping toward an understanding of the world of sub-atomic particles, but we really do not know how far we have yet to go in this task.”

Page 66—“We do not know the patterns of motions that there should be inside the earth.”

Page 71—“It is important to realize that in physics today, we have no knowledge of what energy is.”

Page 83—“Next we come to nuclear energy, the energy which is involved with the arrangement of particles inside the nucleus, and we have formulas for that, but we do not have the fundamental laws. We know that it is not electrical, not gravitational, and not purely chemical, but we do not know what it is.”

Page 84—“In the last analysis, we do not understand the conservation laws deeply. We do not understand the conservation of energy [on page 69 Feynman says it’s “one of the most basic laws of physics, the conservation of energy.”]. We do not understand energy as a certain number of little blobs. You may have heard that photons come out in blobs and that the energy of a photon is Planck’s constant times the frequency. That is true, but since the frequency of light can be anything, there is no law that says that there can be a certain definite amount.”

Page 93—“Galileo discovered a very remarkable fact about the principle of inertia—if something is moving, with nothing touching it and completely undisturbed, it will go on forever, coasting at a uniform speed in a straight line. Why does it keep on coasting? We do not know but that is the way it is.”

Page 110— “The gravitational attraction relative to the electrical repulsion between two electrons is 1 divided by 4.17 x 10 to the 42 power! The question is, where does such a large number come from?. . .This fantastic number is

a natural constant, so it involved something deep in nature.”

Page 113—“None of these nuclear or electrical forces has yet been found to explain gravitation. The quantum-mechanical aspects of nature have not yet been carried over to gravitation.”

Page 134—“One might like to ask: ‘How does it work? What is the machinery behind the law [regarding quantum behavior]. No one has found any machinery behind the law [How about Mind! How about a Lawgiver! How about John 1:1–3!]. No one can ‘explain’ any more than we have just ‘explained.’ No one will give you any deeper representation of the situation. We have no idea about a more basic mechanism from which these results can be deduced.” Thus spake Richard P. Feynman in Six Easy Pieces.

Question 1: If “we don’t know” all these aspects of oneof the most prestigious of the sciences, how is it that somepeople know with absolute certainty that God does not exist?

Question 2: Why is it that atheism is cleverly woven throughout America’s educational system in the sciences, in the humanities, and in the social sciences (which, by the way, Feynman does not consider science at all)?

Elsewhere in this Journal, I quote Feynman regarding the role of government and science. It’s obvious that science has become politicized in this country (think grants) and Feynman doesn’t bow down to it. Feynman would not allow science to defend global warming or declare such science definitive. In fact, quite the opposite is true. In The Meaning of It All, he says, “All scientific knowledge is uncertain” (p. 26). He also says, “I agree that science cannot disprove the existence of God. I absolutely agree” (p. 36).

Why then is science constantly put forward as the “proof” that God does not exist? Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris, are you listening?

—Your Editor, David A. Nobel

(Emphasis-capital letters-mine)

After I read the whole journal I picked up a book my mom got for me called Darwinian Fairytales Selfish Genes, errors of Heredity and Other Fables of Evolution by David Stove. Now it’s important to note that David Stove is not a creationist. This is what he says about himself,

“I had better add at once that I am not a ‘creationist’, or even a Christian. In fact I am of no religion. It seems just as obvious to me as it does to any Darwinian, that the species to which I belong is a certain species of land-mammal. And it seems just as overwhelmingly probable to me as it does to any Darwinian that our species has evolved from some other animals.” (Preface, xiv)

But I was reading the introduction and this is what Roger Kimball (definitely not a creationist either) said,

“Stove shows in unanswerable detail that, despite its enormous explanatory power regarding ‘cods, pines, flies,’ etc., Darwin’s theory of evolution is ‘a ridiculous slander on human beings.’ He is particularly good at exposing the ‘amazing arrogant habit of Darwinians’ of ‘blaming the fact, instead of blaming their theory’ when they encounter contrary biological facts. Doctrinaire Darwinists HAVE AN ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING, ALWAYS A BAD SIGN in science, since it means that mere facts can never prove them wrong. Does it regularly happen that increasing prosperity leads to lower birth rates? And does that directly contradict Darwinian theory? No problem, just announce that the birth rates in such cases are somehow ‘inverted,’ evidence of a ‘biological mistake.’” (Emphasis added)

Is it good to admit that we may not have an answer, that we may not (or dare I say never) come to know everything about everything there is to know? I’m not advocating that because of this we should take evolution (not natural selection) literally and to stop doing science altogether (for if evolution were true we could not do any reputable and somewhat trustworthy science). I still believe we should use our God given minds and study our God given world, that we may have dominion over it and give glory to Him as we should.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Gen. 1:26)

“What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest him?

For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet:” (Psa. 8:4-6)

“O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.” (Psa. 104:24) “The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.” (Psa. 111:2)

And I read this the next day!

“The reason for his mocking, irritated tone is that the unbeliever’s mind is darkened and he applies the wrong arithmetic. Everyone knows that one plus one plus one equals three, not one. But what does one multiplied by one and multiplied by one equal? One. The Trinity is a mystery, but not ‘a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma,’ in the famous words attributed to Winston Churchill. God is three persons in one being. God in His almightiness is a mystery. We DO NOT KNOW HOW the doctrine of the tri-unity of God works. We just know that the Trinity is true and without the Trinity, as the one true God, we cannot make sense out of anything. Reject the Trinity and one cannot account for personhood, love, equality, mathematics, justice, morality, and logic.” (Michael A. Robinson, The Necessary Existence of God, p. 126, emphasis added)

So maybe the lesson here is that you are not going to ever know everything; you can give up on that. Learn as much as you can, “buy the truth and sell it not” (Prov. 23:23), but just come to grips that you are (we are), at the end of the day, very limited. If you don’t already, I encourage you to come to the place where you “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Prov. 3:5) It is an awe-inspiring realization that you will never know everything, but that you can come to know the One Who does.

Always in Christ JESUS’ Awesome, Amazing, Awe-inspiring Love! ~Luke

Psa. 145:11 “They shall speak of the glory of Thy kingdom, and talk of Thy power;”

The Christian’s Predicament:

The Bible

God’s Word: the most precious possession, yea, and the most precious revelation we have on this earth! If you’re a Christian, is it not your life, your very sustenance? Oh what it is to remember that it is not even our food that sustains us:

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” –Matt. 4:4

Is it your most prized possession?

“The LAW of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the TESTIMONY of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The STATUTES of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the COMMANDMENT of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The FEAR of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the JUDGMENTS of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.” (Ps. 19:7-11)

Is it not more to be desired than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb? Without it how could we walk through this life? How would we be warned? Where would be our great reward? How could we hear the words, “This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” (Isa. 30:21b)? Without the written Word we could not know what the spoken Word was, oh how I praise God that He has preserved His living Word for me!

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My WORDS shall not pass away.” (Matt. 24:35, Mar. 13:31 & Luk. 21:23)

He told us this three times! Even if He told us once I believe it is a promise we can cleave to! Amen? What would we do without God’s Word? What if there was not such a thing? Would there be a church? Would you be saved, born again? Would you know what true sacrificial love is? Would you know what God’s name is? Would you know how God created the world? What would you say to the lost and hurting? Would you have to follow the Koran, the Hadith, the Bhagavad Gita, ‘science’ etc.? Yes, praise God that He has given us His Word! I trust that it is precious to you. I know that it is to Him, “I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth: for Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name.” (Ps. 138:2)

God takes His Word very seriously, should we? Consider what He says toward the beginning of the Bible,

“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” (Deu. 4:2)

He commands us not to add or diminish any of His Word, towards the middle of the Bible it says,

“Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” (Prov. 30:5&6)

Again He says His Word is pure; don’t add to it! And He finishes His revelation to us with these words,

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Rev. 22:18&19)

So, I think it is safe to say that God has given us benchmarks throughout His Word warning us that to add or to take away from any of His words is pretty much calling down much calamity, perils and destruction on ourselves.

The predicament we wish to address is that of the inspiration and preservation of the Words of God. If God cares so much about His Word are we not to care also (“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;” Eph. 5:1)?

The predicament we Christians actually have is with all the different texts and translations that are supposed to be His Word. As we are sure you perceived from the verses we have already shared with you we are using the King James Bible! Do you see the problem? We would think that if you did you probably gasped when you first saw us quoting it. You may have asked, “How dare they use the King James Bible! Do they know how corrupt that is?!”

What? You didn’t say that? We desire to show you how this could be a reasonable reaction from both directions whether you are using a KJB or a modern version, you would just have to substitute the ‘King James Bible’ in the phrase above with any other version. (“How dare he use the ‘NIV, NASV, TLB, ESV, RSV, NLT, NEB, etc.’! Does he know how corrupt that is?!”)

Keep this in mind, if you add or subtract from God’s word it is a SERIOUS OFFENSE! Why is there, in Christendom today, such a nonchalant attitude about this? Is there any out there that are willing to zealously proclaim the infallibility and preservation of the greatest gift mankind has received? Many have said that we must stand up for the Genesis account of history and young creation and we agree, but who is going to stand up and actually believe those words that tell us of creation were kept for us –all of those words – by almighty God? The Word is our very life; we must esteem His words better than our necessary food even as Job did (Job 23:12)!

Please keep this in mind as we show you these following passages, we will put the differences between versions in capital bold letters:

John 3:13

NIV “No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.”

NASV “No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.”

ESV “No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.”

KJV “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.”

Here there are four more words in the KJV that are not in the other versions. This is either a subtraction of God’s Word perpetrated by the modern versions OR it is an addition to God’s Word perpetrated by the KJV, let’s go on…

Matthew 5:22

NIV “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

NASV “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.”

ESV “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”

KJV “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother WITHOUT A CAUSE shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”

Again, the Greek translated into English has three more words in the KJV that are not in the others. What is the deal? We have a major problem here either in the KJV or in the other translations.

Matthew 17:21

NIV (nothing)

NASV ["[a] But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”] The footnote says, “Matthew 17:21 Early mss do not contain this v”

ESV (nothing)

KJV “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

Here we finally see what is going on. The modern translations are using different manuscripts than the KJV as the footnote in the NASV says. But which ones are the correct ones? Again, the KJV has twelve (12) Greek words that are not in the manuscripts that the modern translations are using. This is either an addition to God’s word (JESUS didn’t say it) or this is a major subtraction to His Word (a parallel passage in Mark 9:29 in the modern translations has our Lord giving the instruction that this kind comes out not but by prayer but does not have ‘and fasting’ as the KJV does, it is either that our Lord did not ever instruct us to fast and pray in the case of demonic possession or He really did).

1 Timothy 3:16

NIV “Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.”

NASV “By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness:
He who was revealed in the flesh,
Was vindicated in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Proclaimed among the nations,
Believed on in the world,
Taken up in glory.”

ESV “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh,
vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world,
taken up in glory.”

KJV “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

Here we have “He” instead of “God” was manifest in the flesh.

We as a people in general and more specifically as Christians like to know if something is going to work before we try it. We ask ourselves how beneficial it will really be to us and kind of put honoring God on the same or lower level of importance when making decisions. But, since I am talking to Christians, we must make it an absolute priority to honor God first regardless of how things turn out (and this is sound advice to the lost as well).

There are many things out there that we must deal with within the Christian arena and within our walk after Christ. As you grow as a Christian you begin to be confronted with many doctrines and learn many things about your faith. As you walk toward God trying to know Him and love Him and just live in a relationship with Him you will come across many subjects in which you will feel you have to take a stand either way, or just throw up your hands and say, “I don’t know!” And as I would caution taking the later route because we should have faith that the LORD giveth wisdom (Prov. 2:6) there are some serious areas where I believe He has revealed to us that we can remain babes in the faith and remain content that we may never know the answer.

The subject in which I am addressing in this letter is not, I believe, one of those areas. Many times there are clear dichotomies in Scripture. For instance, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matt. 6:24) Here is laid out a clear choice and there is no gray area.

So the question we wish to ask you, dear Christian, is what will be your choice? What Bible will you use (as an English speaker and reader)? A liberal translation? A conservative one? What will be our standard? Should we have a standard? Do we, as Christians, need to be on the same page or is it really all about “me”?

All versions of the Bible use a Hebrew and Greek text that contain some Aramaic. The Greek text that is produced by modern textual critics for popular Bibles such as the NASB, the NIV or the ESV is much shorter than the Received Text New Testament of the KJB. It is shorter by 2,886 words. This is comparable to removing the entire books of 1 and 2 Peter from the Bible (Jack Moorman, Missing in Modern Bibles: Is the full Story Being Told, Bible for Today, 1981). This is a very serious situation and I pray you have the conviction to take it seriously. Modern versions remove or question dozens of entire verses:

Matthew 17:21; 18:11; 23:14

Mark 7:16; 9:44, 46; 11:26; 15:28; 16:9-20

Luke 17:36; 23:17

John 5:4; 7:53-8:11

Acts 8:37; 15:34; 24:7; 28:29

Romans 16:24

1 John 5:7

This is either an addition to the Word of God perpetrated by the KJB (which means corruption) or deletion to the Word of God perpetrated by the modern versions (which means corruption). As I’ve tried to show, the Bible warns at least three times about adding to or taking away from the Word of God (Deut. 4:4; Prov. 30:5-6; Rev. 22:18-19) so logically one cannot be Biblical and believe that both lines of text are true at the same time.

I will just ask you this: Do you believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God? What Scripture do you use to back up that claim? Would you call that Scripture an ‘air-tight’, ‘case-closed’ proof? How perfectly would you say these Scriptures support your belief that God inspired His Word? 10%? 25%? 65%? 90%? 100%? What Scripture gives you assurance that He has done so? Have you gone through every word of your Bible and had confirmed in your spirit that they are the infallible Words of Almighty God?

Now, do you believe that God preserved His Word? What Scripture do you use to back up that claim? Would you call that Scripture an ‘air-tight’, ‘case-closed’ proof? How perfectly would you say that these Scriptures support your belief that God has preserved His Word and to what percentage would you say they suggest He has? 10%? 25%? 65%? 90%? 100%? What Scripture gives you the assurance that He has done so? Do have one standard for the inspiration of God’s Word and another standard for the preservation of God’s Word? Do you believe that God’s Word is 100% inspired and 90% preserved? What Scripture backs you up on this point? Do both Scripture proofs on the inspiration and the preservation give you equal backing to support this belief? Have you gone through every word of your Bible and had confirmed in your spirit that they are the preserved Words of Almighty God?

We believe that God has perfectly (100%) inspired His Word. And we believe that those words are perfectly (100%) preserved for us and we can actually HOLD IT in our hands today and say confidently (100%), “thus saith the LORD!” You can call us crazy but we believe for the English speaking people it is found in the King James Bible.

This writing is given as a primer to this controversial subject. We believe that the devil has not ceased in his attack on the Word of God from the first time he challenged it (“yea, hath God said,..?”) and that the devilish effects of Docetism, Marcionism, Gnosticism and Allegoricalism can readily be seen in the texts that the vast, vast majority of Modern Versions seek to employ. The numerous readings that weaken and remove the testimony of the deity of our LORD JESUS Christ are a travesty that we believe are NOT the preserved Word of God.

Do you see the predicament we have dear Christian? If you hold a ESV/NASB/NIV/etc. in your hand as a bible we would say that it is a corruption of Word of God. Would you be consistent when we hold a King James Bible in our hands and say that it is corrupt?

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Rev.

The topic of music, this is a really good one. In this topic, we will discuss what the Bible teaches us about music and the purpose of it.

We’ll start with the premise. What does God say about holiness? What Does God say about identification? Who are we to identify with? Are we supposed to fit in with everyone else? Should the music we listen to and play be the same music as the rest of the world? Are “Christians” to be separated from the world? (separation will be dealt with in more detail in another topic) However, our premise is that of separation. The following verses deal with the separation of the Christian:

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:15-17).

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4).

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rom. 12:2).

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” (Titus 2:11-12).

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Eph. 5:11).

God even dealt with separation in Israel:

“Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them” (Ezek. 22:26).

Now that we have set our premise, the discussion will begin. Come back soon and come back often to join the discussion. This is topic is one that has plagued the churches today with worldliness and it is very important that this topic be fully understood in a Biblical manner.

Our first topic is the Bible itself. There is much debate out there concerning the Bible versions and which one is right and which ones are not. Let me start out by saying that they all have differences and things that are different are not the same. I’m not talking about printing errors or things like that, I’m talking about many words being different and missing or added.

We will begin with our premise for this doctrine. Our premise is that God said that He would preserve His Word in the Scriptures. The following passages deal with preservation:

“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).

“Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever” (Psalm 119:152)

“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever” (Psalm 119:160).

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” (Isaiah 40:8)

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Mat. 5:18).

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Mat. 24:35)
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you” (1Pet. 1:23-25)

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (Rev. 22:18-19)

This will be a long discussion but well worth it. That which we consider to be the Word of God is very important. John 1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” So you see, the doctrine we have concerning the Word of God effects what we think about God Himself.

Please return often and this topic will continue to develop. We will deal with many of the the opinions out there and discuss Scripture about this topic and the history of the Bible as well as many other things so that we may say that we have studied thoroughly the doctrine of God’s Word.
